Bolton Wireless Club
Local Amateur Radio in the UK
Welcome
We are a group of radio enthusiasts, listeners and licensed operators who meet in person, on air and online to learn about, experience and share the many facets of the amateur radio hobby.
Join us!
If you're interesting in joining us, please contact the Club Secretary (Mark M0UFC).
Our subscription rate for 2025 has been held at £20, which includes access to all our meetings: in-person and online (see the Events page for details).
Come and meet us in person at events such as International Museums Weekend and Bunkers on the Air which we operate during the summer months (see the Events page for details).
Or call us on air: our members are active on all the bands from 160m to 9cm and we have regular nets on some of them (see the About page for more details).
Since 2008, the Club has helped dozens of people progress through their Licence training and put Bolton on the map as a focus of Amateur Radio activity, particularly in the VHF/UHF and microwave bands.
We use video conferencing to augment our physical meetings, so that any members who can't attend in person may still participate. It also facilitates us having guest speakers from around the world, such as Bob Heil (Heil Sound) and Eric Swartz (Elecraft). The Events page shows our programme of meetings.
Our visit to Smithills Hall in July 2022 for a "radio-activity day", where we were operating on several bands and testing several new home-made antennas for the 3.4GHz (9cm) band. This video was filmed and edited by Jack G8HIK.
Then in June 2024 we visited Turton Tower for the International Museums Weekend, operating a Special Event Station on 2m and HF. Once again, this video was filmed and edited by Jack G8HIK.
